How do I make a booking?
The simplest way to book your hostel stay is to use the ‘Book Now’ link. Confirmation is immediate and no credit card is required. If you are travelling with a group, send us a message – we are happy to help!
Do you serve breakfast?
Yes! In summer we offer a breakfast buffet with homemade bread and jam, Icelandic butter, skyr, fruit, waffles, granola/muesli, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, and tea. Breakfast costs 1.500 kr and is available from 8:00-10:00. If you would like breakfast, please let us know at check=in or the night before. The front desk is open from 17:00-21:00.
Do I need to book accommodation in advance?
Drop-ins are welcome – we like surprises. If we have a bed or apartment available, it’s yours! If not – we are happy to help you in any way we can to find a suitable place to rest your head.
Will I have to sleep in a big dormitory?
Our largest dormitory has 12 beds, and the smallest has 6. If that’s not your style, we also have private apartments with their own bathrooms, full kitchens, and a living area. The apartments are perfect for 2-4 people each.
Do I need to bring my own bedding?
No! Made-up beds are included in the price. Please be aware that sleeping bags are not permitted at our hostel.
Can I do my own cooking?
Absolutely! We won’t do it for you, but what we will do is provide a fully-equipped kitchen with everything you need. Each of the apartments has its own kitchen, and the hostel has a shared kitchen. However, there is no maid service so please clean up after yourselves. Also, please use the ventilation hoods when using the stoves to avoid setting off the fire alarm.
Do I need to bring my own towels?
Yes, towels are provided for all guests.
How do I get to the hostel?
It’s easy to reach us if you have your own transportation. We’re just 45 minutes by car from Rekjavík or just over one hour from the airport. There is bus service to Eyrarbakki, but only via Selfoss, so if you would like to arrive by bus you will have to transfer there. It takes about 45 minutes Reykjavík-Selfoss (bus 51 or 52) and about 15 minutes Selfoss-Eyrarbakki (bus 75). See timetables and get more information at Straeto.is.
What tours do you offer?
We can arrange any of the activities on DiscoverEyrarbakki.is and provide information about any self-drive excursions. We highly recommend going horseback riding on the beach or kayaking in the sea or lagoons. Not to be missed! We can also arrange scuba or snorkeling tours at the acclaimed Silfra. This and anything else your heart desires, just ask!
When do you charge my credit card?
Full payment is due upon arrival. We won’t charge your card before.
Do you allow alcohol and smoking at the hostel?
Yes, to the alcohol – of course, as long as you’re 20 years old. And we do sell beer, wine, and Icelandic vodka at the front desk, for those who would like to avoid the trip to the local Vínbúðin in Selfoss! Regarding smoking – NO – we do not allow smoking inside the hostel or apartments. Feel free to smoke outside though.
Do you supply food?
No, but our local restaurant is one of the best in the country and has earned a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence four years in a row. Rauða Húsið restaurant serves modern Icelandic and international cuisine and is most famous for its langoustines (lobster). There is also a convenience store just next-door to us, and a Krónan grocery store in Selfoss, 12 minutes’ drive from us.
Do you provide storage?
We do provide secure lockers in all rooms, free of charge. If needed, we can also store your things before or after check-out. Just ask at the front desk.
